Program dedicated to the integral collection of surviving 17th-century Romances and Songs* by the Portuguese composer Manuel Machado (Lisbon, c.1590 - Madrid, 1646), a work of great rhetorical beauty of enormous value in part unknown.
Manuel Machado (Lisbon, c.1590 - Madrid, 1646)
Portuguese composer, he spent most of his life in Spain. He studied with Duarte Lobo and in 1610, after excelling on several instruments, he joined his father, a harpist, at the Royal Chapel in Madrid. In 1689 he was appointed musician to the Royal Chamber and in 1642 he was rewarded “for his long years of service and that of his father”. All surviving works are secular songs with texts in Castilian that match, in expressiveness, those of their Spanish contemporaries. Programa dedicado à colecção integral dos Romances e Canções seiscentistas sobreviventes* do compositor português Manuel Machado (Lisboa, c.1590 - Madrid, 1646) este programa inspira-se numa obra de grande beleza retórica de enorme valor e em parte desconhecida.

Compositor português, residiu a maior da sua vida em Espanha. Estudou com Duarte Lobo e em 1610, depois de se destacar em vários instrumentos, juntou-se ao seu pai, harpista, na Capela Real de Madrid. Em 1689 foi nomeado músico da Câmara Real e em 1642 foi recompensado “pelos seus longos anos de serviço e pelos de seu pai”. Todas as obras sobreviventes são canções seculares com textos em castelhano que igualam, em expressividade, as dos seus contemporâneos espanhóis.
